Look inside

Real pages from the books.

Every page here is taken from the free samples, which are cut from the same files as the full volumes: a question page, its worked answers, a study-guide chapter and its flashcard table.

  • Chapter 1, Acute Coronary Syndromes: the first two UKMLA SBA questions, each with five options and an Easy difficulty tag
A chapter opens with its questions: vignette, lead-in, five options, difficulty tag.
  • Answers and Explanations page: question 1, answer A, aspirin 300 mg chewed, with a worked explanation referencing NICE guideline NG185
Answers and explanations start on a fresh page in the same chapter, each with its guideline reference.
  • UKMLA Study Guide chapter opener for Acute Coronary Syndromes with an objectives box, a definition and the ECG-based classification
Each chapter opens with objectives, a definition and the classification.
  • Key Flashcards table on acute coronary syndromes with a question column and an answer column
A two-column flashcard table ends every chapter: cover the right-hand column and go.
  • Red Flags and Can't-Miss Diagnoses list followed by the focused history questions for an allergic reaction
Red flags first, then the focused history that separates them.
  • Chapter 3, Anaphylaxis: two SBAs, one on a young woman with throat tightness after eating peanuts and one on a child after intravenous adrenaline
Anaphylaxis, question first: recognise it from the vignette.
  • Reference Index listing NICE guidelines, CKS topics and ESC guidance against the question numbers that cite them
The Reference Index maps each guideline to the questions that rely on it.
  • Topic Summary table listing each chapter with its number of flashcards
The Topic Summary at the back lists the flashcard count per chapter.

How the books are built

Built for revision, not for the shelf.

The structure follows how the AKT is sat: a short run of questions, immediate marking, then the reading you actually needed.

Self-contained chapters

Each chapter is one topic: its questions first, then Answers and Explanations on a fresh page in the same chapter. No flipping to the back, no answers on the facing page.

A worked answer for every question

Explanations go through each option, say why the best answer wins and where the distractors go wrong, and name the guideline behind it.

Difficulty tagged, then summarised

Every question is marked Easy, Medium or Hard, and a table at the back shows the mix per chapter, so you know which topics deserve a second pass.

Notes that follow one shape

Study Guide chapters open with objectives and a definition, then classification, causes, features, investigations, management and complications, in that order every time.

A flashcard table per chapter

A question-and-answer table closes each Study Guide chapter: 8,020 cards in the condition series and 3,098 in the presentations series.

PDF and EPUB, on anything

The PDF keeps the typeset 6 by 9 inch page; the EPUB reflows for phones and e-readers. Both arrive by email within a minute of checkout, and the link keeps working.

Books or the app?

Same bank, two ways to work it.

The books and the app draw on the same questions, notes and flashcards. Choose by how you like to revise; plenty of students use both.

Books FAQ

Before you buy.

What's the difference between the Question Bank and the Study Guides?
The Question Bank is practice: exam-style SBAs with worked, referenced explanations. The Study Guides are the revision notes for the same topics, with a flashcard table at the end of every chapter. The two series share the same ten volumes, so a chapter in one has a matching chapter in the other. Learn more →
What are the Clinical Presentations books?
A second pair of series organised by presenting complaint rather than diagnosis: chest pain, the unwell child, joint pain, the red eye. The AKT hands you a symptom, so these train the differential-diagnosis step. 4 Question Bank volumes and 4 Study Guide volumes cover 13 presentation groups. Learn more →
What format are the books?
Every purchase includes a PDF and an EPUB. The PDF keeps the typeset page and suits a laptop or tablet; the EPUB reflows to fit a phone or e-reader. You download both straight after checkout, and the link in your email keeps working if you need them again. Learn more →
Are these the same questions as the MLA Prep app?
Yes. The books are the app's bank in print form: 5,205 SBAs in the Question Bank, 1,993 in Clinical Presentations, and the same notes and flashcards in the Study Guides. The app adds spaced-repetition scheduling, timed mocks and analytics; the books give you the whole set as files you keep.
Do the books cover PLAB 1?
Yes. PLAB 1 and the UKMLA AKT are written to the same GMC MLA content map, so the topics, questions and guideline references apply to both. Explanations cite NICE, the BNF and UK specialty guidance, which is what PLAB 1 marks against.
Is there a free sample?
Yes. Choose 25 referenced SBAs from the Question Bank or two full chapters of a Study Guide with their flashcard tables, as a PDF, in exchange for your email. Both are cut from the real files, so the format you see is the format you get.
Is there a discount for buying the whole series?
Each series has a complete-set bundle priced below the sum of its volumes. Bundle and single-volume prices are shown on each series page.
Can I get a refund?
The books are instant digital downloads, so all sales are final and purchases are non-refundable; by buying, you consent to immediate access at checkout. If a file won't open or you were charged in error, email support@mlaprep.co.uk and we will put it right.
