1. Summary
MLA Prep uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies. The only ones we set without asking are those that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in and the site working. Analytics cookies are opt-in and off by default. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
2. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser that helps a site remember things between visits — like being logged in. Modern equivalents include localStorage and sessionStorage. “Cookies” in this policy means all of these together.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the service to function. You cannot opt out of them — without them, you wouldn't be able to sign in. No consent banner is needed under UK and EU cookie law for this category.
- Auth session (set by Supabase) — keeps you signed in across page loads. Expires when your session ends or after a period of inactivity.
- CSRF token — protects form submissions against cross-site request forgery. Session-only.
- Cookie-preference flag— records your choice on the analytics banner so we don't ask again every visit. Expires after 12 months.
4. Analytics cookies
With your explicit consent, we set analytics cookies from Google Analytics 4 to understand which features get used, where people drop off in the study flow, and where we have bugs. We enable IP anonymisation so your full IP address is never stored by Google.
_ga— anonymous client identifier. Expires after 24 months._ga_*— session state for our specific GA property. Expires after 24 months.
Analytics are off by default. You can turn them on or off any time via the cookie banner or from your account settings. Turning them off prevents any new Google Analytics cookies from being set.
5. No advertising cookies
We do not run third-party advertising on MLA Prep and we do not set advertising, retargeting or cross-site tracking cookies. We do not sell, rent or share cookie data with advertisers.
6. Managing your preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time:
- Click the cookie banner the next time it appears.
- When signed in, open Account settings → Privacy and toggle analytics on or off.
Changes take effect immediately. We retain your choice for 12 months, after which we'll ask again.
7. Browser-level controls
All major browsers let you view, block or delete cookies at the browser level. If you block strictly necessary cookies the Service won't work — you will be unable to stay signed in. Helpful guides:
8. Changes to this policy
When we add or remove cookies, we'll update this page and the “last updated” date. For material changes we'll also re-surface the consent banner so you can re-confirm your choice.
